Are you a webmaster who needs funds to keep your website running? Or is your website the only way for you to earn income? Whichever you are, for as long as you are a webmaster or a web publisher and you need cash, affiliate marketing may work well for you. With affiliate marketing, you may get a lot of cash pouring into your bank account easily. And if your website is rich in great contents and you want to earn more profit, why not get into the Google Adsense program as well?

Why Affiliate Marketing?
Well, simply because affiliate marketing is the easiest and probably the best way to earn profits online, unless otherwise you are a businessman and would rather sell your own products online than advertise other businessman’s products on your site. But even online retailers can benefit from affiliate marketing programs, because affiliate marketing actually works for merchants as well as it works for the affiliates.

Affiliate marketing, simply said, is a relationship or agreement made between two websites, with one site being the merchant’s website and the other being the affiliate’s site. In the relationship, the affiliate agrees to let the merchant advertise his products on the affiliate’s site. The merchant, on the other hand, would agree to pay the affiliate in whatever method they have agreed into. This would generally mean easy income for the affiliate, as he would do nothing but place the retailer’s ad on his site. This would also be very beneficial for the merchant, as getting affiliates to advertise their products would be a lot more affordable than hiring an advertising firm to promote their products.

There are a variety of methods on how the merchant would compensate the affiliate for his services, and for the webmaster, these methods simply translates to the method by which he would earn easy cash. Among the more common methods of compensation are the pay-per-click method, the pay-per-lead method, and the pay-per-sale method. The pay-per-click method is the method most preferred by affiliates, for their site’s visitor would only have to visit the advertiser’s site for them to gain money. The other two methods, on the other hand, are better preferred by merchants, as they would only have to compensate you if your visitor becomes one of their registrants or if the visitor would actually buy their products.

Getting much profit on affiliate marketing programs, however, does not depend so much on the compensation method is it does on the traffic generated by your site. A website that can attract more visitors would generally have the greater chance of profiting in affiliate marketing programs.

What about Google Adsense?
Google Adsense is actually some sort of an affiliate marketing program. In Google Adsense, Google act as the intermediary between the affiliates and the merchants. The merchant, or the advertiser, would simply sign up with Google and provide the latter with text ads pertaining to their products. These ads, which is actually a link to the advertiser’s website, would then appear on Google searches as well as on the websites owned by the affiliates, or by those webmasters who have signed up with the Google Adsense program.

While one can find a lot of similarities between Google Adsense and other affiliate marketing programs, you can also see a lot of differences. In Google Adsense, all the webmaster has to do is place a code on his website and Google takes care of the rest. The ads that Google would place on your site would generally be relevant to the content of your site. This would be advantageous both for you and for the advertiser, as the visitors of your site would more or less be actually interested with the products being advertised.

The Google Adsense program compensates the affiliate in a pay-per-click basis. The advertisers would pay Google a certain amount each time their ad on your site is clicked and Google would then forward this amount to you through checks, although only after Google have deducted their share of the amount. Google Adsense checks are usually delivered monthly. Also, the Google Adsense program provides webmasters with a tracking tool that allows you to monitor the earnings you actually get from a certain ad.

So, where do all of these lead us to?
Where else but to profits, profits and even more profits! Affiliate marketing programs and the Google Adsense program simply work, whether you are the merchant or the affiliate. For the merchant’s side, a lot of money can be saved if advertising effort is concentrated on affiliate marketing rather than on dealing with advertising firms. For the webmaster, you can easily gain a lot of profits just by doing what you do best, and that is by creating websites. And if you combine all your profits from both the Google Adsense program and other affiliate marketing programs, it would surely convert to a large amount of cash.

There is no bigger idea in enterprise technology than the idea of “cloud computing“. What does it mean? Simply put, the idea is that enterprises will cease to buy hardware, software, and all the headaches that come with them. Instead, companies will rent whatever applications they need and access them over the internet. Software vendors will keep their applications on a pool of shared infrastructure (the cloud), which will automatically allocate resources between applications according to demand. Using a common analogy, we will move from today’s world where companies are buying and building their own electricity generators, to a world where there are power companies distributing electricity over a grid.

To get a sense for how this might happen, just take a look at the CRM market. Ten years ago, Siebel and other packaged software vendors were among the fastest growing companies in America. Today, they are shrinking as customers migrate en masse to, for example, salesforce.com’s cloud-based approach. One Wall Street analyst I spoke to last week forecast that hosted (i.e., cloud-based) applications will grow their market share from 12% to 21% by 2011, and account for all growth in the market.

E-discovery is no exception to this mega-trend, and I expect a portion of the e-discovery software business to move to the cloud. How quickly this happens depends on how easy it is for companies to adopt cloud-based e-discovery solutions, which is why Google’s recent moves into e-discovery are so significant.

Google is by far the largest cloud computing company in the world. Its cloud-based Google Apps suite of applications was only launched in 2007, but is already being used by several hundred thousand businesses and, Google tells me, 2,000 new businesses sign up every day. Today, the customers are mainly small to medium sized businesses (500-5,000 employees). But as its functionality improves, larger companies will increasingly start asking why they should pay for Microsoft Office when cheaper alternatives exist.

Talking to Bill Kee, a product marketing manager at Google, it’s clear the biggest gap in Google Apps’ functionality was the lack of enterprise features around security, compliance, and e-discovery. That’s why Google acquired Postini, a leader in messaging security. It’s why Google recently launched Message Discovery, a hosted archive that comes bundled into Google Apps Premier Edition. And it’s why Google is collaborating with Clearwell to educate the market on cloud-based e-discovery solutions.

If you are interested in learning more about e-discovery in the cloud, register for a free webinar which we are hosting with Google on June 3.

PLR is essentially a process that allows users to download PLR products like articles, ebooks and software and then use the modified PLR products for various purposes. XYZ can make the articles available for download to its members at a fraction of the original costs. Depending on the TOS (terms of service) a user can claim authorship of the articles or use the articles after modifying the articles sufficiently.

Dynamic web ads, such as those served up by Google’s ubiquitous AdSense platform, are a great way to earn passive revenue from your online presence or publications. However, these ads can bite you in surprising ways if you’re not very selective about which pages they appear on, and where on those pages they go. At worst, they can not only confuse your users, but potentially result in a direct loss of traffic or business to competitors.

Click on the thumbnail of this image to see a full-size screenshot of a browser window I recently found myself looking at. I came to this website wanting to download the latest version of TortoiseSVN, a most excellent Subversion client for Windows. When I clicked the “Download” link from the site’s front page, I saw this page. What do you suppose I clicked on next?

That’s right - I saw “Download - Subversion Client”, thought “Yep, that’s what I came here for,” and clicked the link without reading any further. I was then unpleasantly surprised to find myself at the top of a completely different website. I had unwittingly clicked on an ad that, due to the page’s layout, looked like it was part of the page’s body text! As a result, I’d been whisked away to the homepage of Syncro, one of TortoiseSVN’s competing products.

A more subtle error here is the choice to use AdSense ads on this page at all. Because AdSense works by scanning the containing page’s content and then choosing ads that seem relevant, a page with lots of mentions of Subversion clients is naturally going to result in ads for various Subversion software - almost all of which are guaranteed to be for products other than the one the page itself is hoping you’ll download!

I myself make use of AdSense on other blogs that I publish; for example, The Gameshelf features a block of ads on every page. They’re usually about games, or even other game publications, but since I’m not selling a product on the site I’m not worried about losing any customers to them. On the Appleseed blog that you’re currently reading, however, I know that AdSense would see all the text about software consulting that decorates every page on this site, and would happily coax you to visit the websites of my many competitors.

Context-sensitive advertising is a clever invention that increases the chance that ads shown to your site’s visitors will be more relevant to their interests, making it more likely they’ll click through, and therefore send a little extra revenue your way. And that’s quite nice - so long as you have an idea where those click-throughs are aimed.

Similar to BOOTP, DHCP uses a request/reply mechanism, and the packet format is almost the same for both to provide for backward compatibility. The layout of the packet used by DHCP looks very much like the layout of the BOOTP packet, with a few exceptions. The first 11 fields are the same. However, the last field, which is called the Vendor Extensions area in the BOOTP packet, is called the Options field in the DHCP packet. The format of the options is the same as it was for BOOTP. However, some of the options that are defined in RFC 2132 are specific only to DHCP. The options available for use with BOOTP clients are a subset of those available for use with DHCP clients. Although this field was limited to 64 bytes in the BOOTP packet, it now is a variable-length field that has a minimum of 312 bytes for DHCP options.

The sales team uses it to keep track of leads and opportunities, marketing uses it to capture new leads or target a specific group within their own customer base, accounting uses it to track closed opportunities and the list goes on. Over the past year we have talked to many businesses looking to get the most from their CRM investment and make their employees more productive. While they are happy with their CRM overall, their employees could be far more productive with just a few improvements to the user experience, filling in the gaps in application functionality. Most of the requests fall into two categories: user interface or data integration.

In the first category, some businesses have all the data they need inside the CRM but the process of getting or changing the data is cumbersome for end users and does not match the typical process an employee goes through. An example of this scenario came to us from a Salesforce.com customer. They were happy with the overall CRM and had moved most of the operations for the company to their new CRM but limits on the UI kept them from customizing the layout to fit the processes they had for fulfilling orders and tracking the cost of goods sold delivered on each opportunity. A Bungee-powered application was quickly built that embedded an inventory manager right within the opportunity page providing the employees with a single interface to enter and track inventory, previously a multi-page process. This application helped the warehouse employees track specific inventory items to a particular customer and the accounting office was able to track the exact cost associated with each opportunity.

By way of data integration, WideLens is a great example of bringing data in from multiple sources and presenting it in a single view. WideLens brings calendar data from Exchange, Google Calendar, Salesforce.com, Facebook and iCalendar into a single calendar. For CRM users, this type of integration keeps them working within the CRM rather than bouncing from application to application to manage their schedule between systems.

Bungee Connect was a natural choice for these solutions because the developers had the flexibility to build the user interface that made the most sense for the application along with the Ajax interactivity to make it user-friendly. The other requirement we heard a lot was that the application must be hosted. Most of them are using CRM-as-a-service and the thought of hosting their own integrations just didn’t make sense. With Bungee Connect, they could build any application and didn’t need any software to do it.

Over the weekend we updated a section of our website dedicated to helping CRM customers get more by using Bungee Connect to build applications that fiill-in the missing functionality or data connectivity. We now have sample code and a developer center for Netsuite, Oracle CRM On-Demand, Salesforce.com and SugarCRM.

Marketing through auto responder series is a popular strategy to increase repeat website visits and sales. Here is a popular strategy.

EZINE EBOOK
Instead of trying to publish a small daily or weekly eZines, try publishing one large monthly eZine (similar to a monthly magazine) as an e-book format delivered via auto responder, preferably an Adobe .pdf file. You could have it made up of a large number of articles per issue and insert regularly featured areas throughout like inspirational quotes, industry tips, favorite sites and advice from the pros.

You could also insert full-color graphics, multimedia components like audio / video file links and ads. Then you can charge a monthly rate, with an annual discounted package purchase, and sell advertising spots to sprinkle in your auto responder announcements for each issue and with an informational series to announce your monthly eZine to new prospects.

In summary, by using customized marketing techniques like an eZine eBook, tailored to fit your own products and services, you can reach out and increase your website traffic and sales opportunities. Internet marketing can mean more ways to grow your business.

In this post, I will again dive into the work of mental health professional Carl R. Rogers from his essay, “Toward a Theory of Creativity.” I will try to provide you with an adequate understanding of his work via my understanding of the text. If you have read Rogers and wish to comment on his ideas of creativity, be my guest, the conversation is yours.

Social Need and Creative Process

We live in an age where the roles of active-creator and passive-receiver are changing. With various social media sites and free software applications, one can produce movies, which can be uploaded or share beautiful photographs for free with others. There is a social need to create lest we sink into actless consumerism. The reading of books can change our ways of perceiving the world and the active creation of books or essays can also greatly affect us in myriad ways. Us humans seem to find ourselves in our creations, the vortex of creativity arises from us, comes into us and colors our world.

The “creative process” as Rogers defines it can be broken down into two parts. The first is that there must be “an observable product of creation.” That is to say, the musician, instead of rehearsing the song only in the confines of the body’s interior, brings it out through the fingers or through the voice. The designer fashions a table or a draft of the table on paper. “Creativity” enters the picture when we examine the tools and the product of the imagination as it exists in reality in accord with other actual creations that exist in the world. That is, we recognize the once-occurrence of the piece of art or of the live speaker’s speech as novel, as something authentic, as something coming from the true part of one’s self and not from a false space.

Actualization and Inner Conditions

Human, the incomplete animal, tends toward actualization. The painter leaving the painting half-finished may be haunted by the forgotten project that could have been. The musician sets a goal of completing an album or of crafting a stellar live show. In doing this, the person moves into the realm of the creative, of actualizing an imagined work and breathing life into it, animating it. Moreover, there seems to be a tendency for us to want to perform to our potential. To be caught in a job that you don’t like may mean quitting the job or it may mean to more fully utilize your potential on the job. In either way, the lagging feeling that you are not doing in accord with your potential may usher in and pester the imagination, sometimes fruitfully and other times not. However, where there is “open-ness” to the situation and to and with others, the results of one’s creative endeavors may flourish with felicity.

The inner conditions, which promote creativity include “extensionality,” “an inner locus of evaluation” and “the ability to play.” Extensionality is Rogers’ term for this “open-ness” to reality. It is to be fluid, to bend and sway with one’s life situations and learn from them. The internal locus of evaluation is the recognition that only one can truly judge oneself and one’s own performance. That is, for example, after performing a concert, the musician needs to be able to fairly examine the performance and try to come to see it an a balanced way. Moreover, there should be the ability to play with the materials at hand, to brainstorm to create without evaulation, to let what wants to emerge, come out and develop under your guiding hand.

The Creative Act

But, what about the creative act? What happens in the play known as “the creative act?” Think about your favorite musician and what that musician seeks to create, what that musician seeks to construct. Maybe, if you are like me, you find yourself listening to Austrian experimental guitar music. What exactly did this experimental guitarist/composer wish to bring to life? Whatever it is, perhaps you can sense the essence of the piece, the images that stir in your mind, the blurry outlines becoming crisp, the image becoming clearer and clearer upon closer listening.

When we listen to that musician, we become aware that we have entered that musician’s world, that the “I” of that musician is communicating with our very own “I.” Similarly, what makes a certain film stick with us. What gives a marvelous film, its marvelous qualities. Whose vision is the film? When we watch a David Lynch film, even if we don’t know that it is a David Lynch film, we can tell by the way the characters interact, by the music, by the atmosphere…We can sense the “I” of Lynch himself through the fantasy world of cinema.

Factors for Considering Constructive Creativity

In closing, for Rogers there are roughly four factors that foster constructive creativity. The first, “individual as unconditional worth,” sees the individual as a once-occurrent event, an ever-changing worlding moment. The second factor wishes to alleviate any forms of external evaluation. That is, the school teacher would have to stop comparing grades for grades only work to block the creative process of the student by pitting student against student, student against parent, student against teacher or student versus self. The third factor is empathic understanding of the other, an acceptance of the other as he or she is, which promotes a willingness to share and to express. The fourth and final factor would be allowing the other person complete symbolic expression. In this way, the person may write a poem about a specific traumatizing situation instead of reacting violently toward a real flesh-and-blood other. Or, the writer may write about a powerful experience, that is, expressing it through a symbolic medium. This is freeing.

Thank you very much for reading. Have a creative and productive day.
